Report: Hibs U18 6-0 Dundee United
Hibernian FC’s Under-18s hit Dundee United for six on Tuesday night in their latest CAS Elite U18 League fixture.
Darren McGregor’s side continued their strong showing in the competition and are now top of the league after that emphatic victory.
Our Wee Hibees started the game brightly and took the lead just 12 minutes into the match. After a nice passage of play, a dangerous cross was whipped across the six-yard box before being put into the back of the net by a Dundee United defender.
From that moment Hibs went from strength-to-strength, with Dean Cleland grabbing the first of his four goals just before the half-hour mark. Our youngsters caught Dundee United napping from a quick throw in down the left, before the ball was cut back to the young striker inside the area. Cleland took a touch before calmly rolling the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Two minutes before half-time and it was 3-0. Again, the goal came from the left-hand-side with the ball being rolled across the face of the Dundee United goal and placed home by Cleland.
McGregor’s youngsters started the second half in the same vein, on the front foot and looking to create chances, and on the hour they found their fourth. Cleland turned provider this time and slipped Owen Calder into the box, who made no mistake.
In the 73rd minute it was 5-0 this time from a set piece. A corner was kept alive at the back post before Cleland bagged his hat-trick firing in from close range.
And five minutes later it was six after some excellent pressing inside the Dundee United half to win the ball high up the pitch. The ball was slipped through to Cleland who fired a powerful left-footed effort past the goalkeeper.
It was an excellent performance from our youngsters, and one that has taken up to the top of the CAS Elite U18 League, ahead of second-placed Kilmarnock on goal difference. Rangers sit in third a point behind, however, they do have two games in hand.
