MLB Rumors: What Alex Bregman Told Interested Team About Potential Deal

0 136

Alex Bregman already rejected a contract offer from the Astros this offseason, but that doesn’t mean he’s not interested in staying with Houston.

The Astros seemingly were out of the running to sign Bregman for the bulk of the last few months, but a series of events might have put the Astros back in the race. The club’s latest high-impact trade with the Chicago Cubs created more spending money in Houston, which now reportedly is “trying” to retain the star third baseman.

In fact, the Astros reportedly approached Bregman’s team about keeping the union alive.

“The Astros, according to the two executives, reached out to Scott Boras, Bregman’s agent, on Wednesday to determine if Bregman still had interest in returning,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote in a column published Sunday. “Bregman informed the Astros he still had strong interest in coming back, but needed a resolution quickly since he already had teams willing to give him multi-year deals.”

Houston reportedly is one of “at least three” teams to offer Bregman a deal with a length of five years or longer. The Red Sox, who have been attached to the two-time All-Star in rumors since the start of the offseason, reportedly aren’t keen on going beyond four years on a deal for Bregman.

As Nightengale mentioned, the 30-year-old appears to have multiple teams interested in his services. But signs are starting to point to Bregman staying with the team he’s played his entire career with to date.
