‘We want Levy out’ chants were heard at Spurs v Leicester

Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon has made the threat of a relegation battle a reality for the club who were in the Champions League final in 2019 and have failed to progress since that night in Madrid.

Even before Richarlison had put the home side ahead, chants of “We want Levy out” could be clearly heard from around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and grew louder as the game wore on.

Banners were also seen within the stadium protesting against the club’s current ownership which included one which read: 24 years, 16 managers, 1 trophy. Time for change.”

Tottenham have failed to win any of their last seven Premier League matches which has seen them rooted dangerously close to the relegation zone.

What Ange Postecoglou said about the ‘Levy out’ chants

After the defeat, Postecoglou was asked for his opinion on the Daniel Levy out chants from the supporters and kept his cards close to his chest.

He told Football.London: “Certainly something I wanted to try and do when I took on this role is to try to unify the club and create an environment here where we are all focused on the one thing. Obviously it hasn’t worked out that way. It’s understandable, like you said, the fans are not happy with our current situation. It is a difficult one to navigate because we need them right now, especially at home to create an atmosphere.

“It wasn’t that long ago we played Liverpool here and it was a great night. Everyone was focused on the one thing. Like I said, the one thing I keep saying and I think it is important to acknowledge, the players are giving everything for this club and I think that is something that needs to be acknowledged by everyone.”

Postecoglou saw first-hand how it ended for Antonio Conte when he decided to be vocal about the state of Tottenham and the Australian instead has decided to remain tight-lipped, even when quizzed about the lack of transfers this month.

Whether Levy sacks Ange Postecoglou is irrelevant in the long-run, there may be a short-term benefit but while the ownership continue to operate the club in this manner, the 18 month cycle of madness will continue.
