Man United lose young centre-back who has trained with the first team under Ruben Amorim - report
Manchester United U21 centre-back Jack Kingdon has joined English National League club Rochdale on a loan deal to the end of the season (via the club’s official website).
Kingdon will hope to gather first-team experience before returning to Old Trafford in the summer.
Rochdale are pushing to gain promotion to the Football League. They sit eighth in the standings and are on course to qualify for the play-offs.
Kingdon has been a pivotal player for United U21s this season, playing regularly as one of the first-choice centre-backs.
He has only failed to start one Premier League 2 game, racking up 691 minutes. He also started the two games United played in the English Football League Trophy before they were knocked out.
Kingdon was promoted to the U21s in the 2022/2023 campaign but featured just once.
He made three appearances in the Premier League 2 last season and started the play-off clash with Arsenal, playing right-back.
The defender was mainly involved with the U18s, featuring in 16 games and scoring two goals to help Adam Lawrence’s side win the U18 Premier League at Chelsea’s expense
He formed a strong partnership with Louis Jackson, conceding 28 goals in 24 games during the regular season. Manchester City were the only team to let in fewer goals.
The defender has spent four years in Man United’s academy, having joined from Morecambe in 2020
He was invited to train with the first team ahead of manager Ruben Amorim’s first game against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Kingdon has been around the first-team environment before his move to Rochdale. He trained with National League club Altrincham in the 2022/2023 season.
He represented the club in the Cheshire Senior Cup before he returned to United.
The Scottish centre-back signed his first professional with the Red Devils last year. He is hoping to become a key player for the club in the future.
