The lack of defensive depth persists with the winter window nearing its end

So far in the winter window, it has been well-reported that Tottenham are keen to bolster their squad following their injury crisis.

Twenty-three days now have passed and the club are yet to complete the signing of any outfield player – the only business done so far this window, is the acquisition of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Prague.

With the injury crisis hitting the defence hard, the N17 club have been linked with a number of signings. Ko Itakura, Milan Skriniar, and David Hancko are some of the names reported to be under the radar of Spurs, yet no signings have been made.

With less than ten days left in the window, Spurs have now been linked with one Barcelona defender.

Tottenham Hotspur have been contacted over Eric Garcia

This latest report comes from TBR Football who say that Tottenham Hotspur are amongst a number of Premier League clubs who have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona’s Eric Garcia.

The report states that Tottenham Hotspur are very much aware of the availability of the centre-back, but they are not the only Premier League club aware of the defender’s availability.

The likes of Brighton, West Ham, Wolves, Newcastle and Aston Villa are said to have also been contacted.

Ange Postecoglou reveals that signings might not be made in January

The Lilywhites need extra hands in defence given the rate at which their players are picking up injuries.

This need remains even if all their defenders are back fit, as there is no guarantee that they will not pick up more injuries as the season progresses.

In fact, it has been a common trend this season where returning players fail to remain fit, instead, they pick up more injuries.

Despite this glaring need and recent links, manager Ange Postecoglou has hinted at the possibility of Spurs ending the winter window without any more signings.

He stated: “Yeah, potentially. The club is working hard to get some help for the players. As far as I am aware there is nothing imminent but in the last week of the window things happen quickly.”
