Tottenham could suffer a Timo Werner plot twist in January

Even though Ange Postecoglou has rubbished the suggestion of Timo Werner leaving the club before the transfer deadline, a report from France has now suggested that a late move is indeed on the cards for the forward.

Will Timo Werner’s stay at Tottenham be cut short?

Timo Werner has certainly not set the world alight during his 12-month loan spell at Tottenham so far, with the German continuing to be plagued by a lack of composure in the final third, which has been a perennial issue for him.

Werner is on loan at Spurs until the end of the season, but Postecoglou has previously brushed aside suggestions that his loan spell could be cut short prematurely this month.

The Tottenham head coach insisted two weeks ago that the last thing he wants to do is to lose another player, adding that he is going to need all the help he can get for the next few months.

MLS clubs in talks with signing Werner on loan

However, Foot Mercato have now claimed that there is indeed a possibility that Werner’s spell at Tottenham could come to an end within the next week.

The outlet suggested that the winger might be recalled by Leipzig and loaned out to MLS side New York Red Bulls, who the Red Bull Group also owns.

In fact, it is revealed that the American side are currently in talks with the Bundesliga club about the possibility of a temporary move for Werner, with the two parties trying to find common ground.

A move to Serie A is also on the cards for Timo Werner

It was reported earlier this month that Napoli are showing interest in securing Werner’s services, and a fresh update has now backed up the same claim.

This comes from Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) who say that Antonio Conte‘s men have identified the on-loan Tottenham man as a potential replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

However, the report makes it clear that Werner is not the top target for the Serie A league leaders and is seen more as a ‘Plan B’, but the idea of signing the German international ‘remains alive’ in Naples.
