Spurs academy starlet reminds me of Luka Modric – Jermain Defoe says
Jermaine Defoe has revealed his pick for the three players to keep an eye on this year and he has compared one Tottenham Hotspur youngster to Luka Modric and Joe Cole.
Who is Spurs teenager Tyrese Hall?
Tyrese Hall is one of Tottenham’s exciting young prospects. He made the move to Spurs from Chelsea’s academy and scored 16 goals for the under-16s team. He then made five appearances for the under-18s, whilst undergoing his education at The Compton School in North Finchley.
A lot has happened since then, with Hall signing his first professional contract in 2022. He now plays for the Spurs under-21s team and has registered three goals and two assists in 11 Premier League 2 appearances this season.
Hall has only been part of the Tottenham first-team squad on one occasion, when Spurs were defeated 2-0 by Manchester City last season. Although he did make three appearances in pre-season and in one match he scored a spot kick in a penalty shootout against Newcastle United.
Jermaine Defore highlights Hall and Olusesi as players to watch
Appearing on Sky Sports News, former Tottenham goal machine, Jermain Defoe, has named his three players to keep an eye on, including two Spurs youngsters and ex-Lilywhite Kieran Morgan.
Tyrese Hall is one of Defoe’s players to watch. Defoe coached the 19-year-old for two years in the Spurs academy and has revealed that the ‘phenomenal talent’ reminds him of Luka Modric and Joe Cole due to his ‘silky’ technical play.
He said: “I’ll probably go as far as saying he’s [Hall] probably one of the best players at his age I’ve seen in the country.
“Actually, I remember we played a game last year I think it was last year against Chelsea, and his performance was unbelievable. It was that standard performance. It was probably his best performance of the season in the big game. I think we ended up winning three, two was 2-nil down. It was a masterclass, and the player’s name is Tyrese Hall.
“He’s someone who I believe is a Premier League footballer. And that’s a big statement, but he’s someone who, from my first saw him, I thought, you know what? I believe, God willing, that he’s someone that can go in and play at the top, top level. Unbelievable footballer, so much potential.”
Defoe has also named Callum Olusesi as a player to watch. The 17-year-old has scored four goals in nine Premier League 2 appearances this season and has also been seen on the Spurs first-team bench.
Defoe said: “There’s another one, Callum Olesesi. He’s been on the bench a few times this season for Tottenham. Another young player. Can play as a holding midfielder, play as a six, play as an eight, play as a ten. Still developing, but great potential.”
Defoe has said that Hall, Olusesi and Kieran Morgan, who now plays for QPR, will have ‘unbelievable careers,’ along with Mikey Moore, who Defoe has said does not need a mention, as people know him due to his first-team appearances.
Will we see Tyrese Hall or Callum Olusesi start for Spurs?
Football London reported that Tyrese Hall could be loaned out during the January transfer window, with a number of football league clubs reportedly interested in the youngster. Although no loan move has been secured as of yet, there is still more than a week for a deal to be agreed.
Olusesi is likely to remain at Spurs, but as he is still only 17 he is likely to continue representing the under-21s team. However, with injuries still causing Spurs issues, a brief Europa League cameo could be a possibility.
