Ange Postecoglou responds to question about his Tottenham future
Ange Postecoglou faces scrutiny over his Tottenham future amidst growing pressure, but the manager insists that his main focus is on turning things around in N17.
Ange Postecoglou’s bold promise and Tottenham’s troubled season
At the dawn of the campaign, Ange Postecoglou made a statement that filled Tottenham Hotspur supporters with hope and expectation: “I always win things in my second year.”
This declaration was not without merit, given his track record of turning clubs around quickly, but reality has been far from the optimism that accompanied his arrival.
Despite Tottenham’s progress in the Carabao Cup—where they have reached the semi-finals—the club’s Premier League performance has been a stark contrast to the promise of silverware.
After 22 matches, Spurs find themselves languishing in 15th place, having secured only 24 points while suffering 12 defeats.
This dismal form has turned the optimism of August into the frustration of January, with fans growing increasingly vocal about their discontent.
Ange Postecoglou addresses his future at Tottenham Hotspur
In the face of mounting scrutiny, Ange Postecoglou has responded with a defiant and measured stance. Speaking to football.london, the Tottenham manager made it clear that his focus remains firmly on guiding the team through this turbulent period.
When asked ‘if his future is at risk because of the lack of help he’s had in the transfer market’, Postecoglou said: “I separate myself from that.
“This is not about me, but what is about me right now is I have the responsibility of the group of players I do have, to try and get us through this, and that’s what I’ve got to focus on.
“For me to focus on anything else is abstaining myself from the responsibility I have. I’m just determined to get us out of this.
“The club’s doing its best to…more about helping the players than helping me because they’re the ones we’re asking some massive jobs of 18-year-olds.
“We had a 17-year-old out there trying to win games of football for us. And others who are just playing week on week, so, you know it’s more about getting the players help rather than me help.”
Tottenham’s struggles extend beyond the manager
While Ange Postecoglou finds himself under fire, it would be overly simplistic to place the blame entirely on his shoulders.
The injury crisis at Tottenham has been relentless, forcing the manager to rely heavily on young players who are still finding their feet in senior football.
This lack of depth has been exacerbated by the club hierarchy’s failure to adequately strengthen the squad, leaving the team ill-equipped to navigate the demands of the season.
With just little over ten days left in the winter window, it is over to chairman Daniel Levy to respond to this crisis.
