This Dan Campbell Comment Could Not Have Aged Any Worse

The NFC postseason thus far has played out far differently than most expected.

Dan Campbell certainly didn’t see the results coming.

The 2024 NFL regular season concluded with a heavyweight fight at Ford Field, where the Lions and the Vikings battled for the NFC North title and the conference’s No. 1 seed. Detroit cruised to a 22-point win over Minnesota, but Campbell was confident his team would see its fierce rival in the divisional round.

“I’ll see you in two weeks,” Campbell told Kevin O’Connell after Jan. 5 contest, per ESPN.

The Lions ultimately didn’t play the Vikings in their playoff opener, as the sixth-seeded Commanders booked a ticket to the Motor City by upsetting the Buccaneers in the wild-card round. But a third Detroit-Minnesota tilt of the season wouldn’t have happened even if Tampa Bay protected home turf, as the Vikes were pummeled by the Rams the next day.

Campbell surely wishes his team had the chance to host O’Connell’s side for the second time in as many weeks, though. Detroit on Saturday night was stunned by upstart Washington, which will visit either Los Angeles or Philadelphia for the NFC Championship Game.

Thus, both the Lions and the Vikings will have even more time this offseason to think about what could have been.
