Match Report: Maidenhead United 4-1 AFC Fylde
AFC Fylde’s 2025 got off to a disappointing start after being beaten 4-1 by Maidenhead at York Road.
A brace by Tristan Abrahamas and goals from Shawn McCoulsky and Thierry Latty-Fairweather were enough for the Berkshire outfit to claim all three points.
A second half goal from Lincoln McFayden wasn’t enough for Kevin Phillips’ side who made the journey back to Lancashire empty handed.
The Coasters started strongly and went close within the first five minutes, Charlie Jolley’s close range effort was brilliantly tipped onto the bar from Maidenhead skipper, Craig Ross.
The early pressure from Fylde continued with Jolley, Danny Ormerod and Jon Ustabasi all looking like a threat, but the visitors could not force the Magpies goalkeeper into action again.
After a scrappy period, the hosts took the lead just past the half hour mark. Good play from Reece Smith saw the midfielder run at the Coasters backline and put in a low cross for Abrahams to convert from close range for his first of the evening.
Maidenhead had their second a few moments later when McCoulsky got in behind the defence and fired a low finish past Ben Winterbottom.
There was nearly a goal back for the Coasters just before the break when Danny Ormerod met Will Hugill’s cross at the back post, but his looping header was tipped over.
Nick Haughton and new signing Ashley Boatswain were introduced at half time as Fylde looked to get back into the game.
Maidenhead, however, extended their lead ten minutes after the break with Latty-Fairweather cutting inside from the left wing and smashing a right footed effort into the bottom corner.
Fylde responded soon after, when substitute Nick Haughton’s free kick was tipped onto the post by Ross, McFayden found himself unmarked inside the six yard area to tap home into the empty net and give the Coasters some hope.
A piece of Haughton magic nearly brought another back for Fylde, with the number 10 going on a mazy run past three defenders, and unleashing a powerful shot, but Ross was equal to it once more.
With 15 minutes remaining Abrahams sealed all three points for the hosts with a powerful left footed effort past WInterbottom into the top corner for his second of the game.
A first game in 23 days for the Coasters ended in defeat on the road, but they will look to bounce back at home when they take on Wealdstone at Mill Farm next Saturday.
