He said: “Tottenham like many clubs are thinking about the striker’s market and wondering whether or some of their targets are not going to be available until the summer.

“For example, Viktor Gyokeres. I think people like Gyokeres or alternatively Jonathan David who might be available for a nominal fee now but is more likely to wait for free agency, looking at potentially Liam Delap, but it would take something astronomical to move him.

“Tottenham are in the conversation for some of these players, Chelsea are going to be in for Delap as well, but it’s a case of can they get anyone opportunistically or can they wait until summer.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s approach to the striker market now appears to hinge on timing, with their top target for the January window, Kolo Muani, no longer an option.

The situation surrounding Jonathan David suggests Tottenham may wait until summer to pursue him as his contract nears expiration, making a cut-price deal or free transfer more likely.

Viktor Gyokeres presents an intriguing possibility, given his strong form in Portugal, though Sporting Lisbon may not be willing to part with him mid-season without a premium fee.

Liam Delap, while a younger and less experienced candidate, could offer the potential for long-term development, but with Chelsea also reportedly in the running, any deal would require swift and decisive action.
