Red Sox Rival Eyeing Splash Move After Losing Roki Sasaki Sweepstakes?
A Boston Red Sox rival really needs a win this offseason, and they could be nearing a big move.
The Blue Jays might be the new “interest kings” of MLB. That sentiment was reiterated after Roki Saski chose to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers despite Toronto making a trade to acquire more international pool space.
John Schneider’s side could be quickly moving on as the Jays discussed a potential deal with Anthony Santander, according to Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet on Friday.
Santander earned an All-Star nod and a Silver Slugger honor after the 2024 season after a career season with the Baltimore Orioles. The switch-hitter was a consistent power bat amid the O’s injuries and should complement Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the middle of the lineup.
Blue Jays fans hope a deal can be reached since Toronto missed out on top names like Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes. It also is connected to Alex Bregman, but the Red Sox and Detroit Tigers are viewed as more likely destinations for the All-Star than the Blue Jays.
Whiffing out on the offseason would damage the Blue Jays’ chances this season and it also could have ramifications for Guerrero next offseason. Signing Santander could help put a band-aid to a rough offseason for Toronto.
