2/10 duels won, 7 passes: Amorim must now drop 3/10 United star vs Brighton & Hove Albion - opinion
Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League following a 3-1 triumph over Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The Red Devils were second best against the Saints and could have conceded more than one goal before the break. Andre Onana made several top-class saves.
The Saints continued to dominate proceedings, but the complexion of the game changed in the final 15 minutes. Amad Diallo had some good fortune with a deflection before netting the equaliser.
Diallo went on to bag the winner after a brilliant one-two with Christian Eriksen. He capitalised on a mistake from Taylor Harwood-Bellis to register the first hat-trick of his playing career.
The Ivorian saved the club’s blushes, but there were several underwhelming displays. Rasmus Hojlund was probably the worst player on the pitch for the Red Devils on the night.
The Denmark international registered just seven successful passes and 17 touches. He won only two out of 10 ground and aerial duels. He was substituted in the 53rd minute.
He received a 3/10 rating from Manchester Evening News for his performance.
Hojlund created one brilliant chance for Alejandro Garnacho, who fluffed his lines. Aside from this, the Dane struggled to impose himself against the league’s bottom club.
Joshua Zirkzee had a better influence off the bench with his hold-up and link-up play. The Dutchman’s introduction brought a change in momentum for the Red Devils.
Manager Ruben Amorim must drop Hojlund to the bench for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion following another frustrating performance.
Zirkzee deserves to lead the attack on the back of two impressive cameo displays.
