'I don't like' - Gary Neville reacts to Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho's exit links from Man United - report
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has reacted to reports linking Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho away from the club.
The academy graduates have established themselves as part of the first-team squad.
They were considered off-limits alongside Rasmus Hojlund last summer, but United have changed their stance.
The club are reportedly ready to make an ‘unemotional judgment’ regarding a possible sale of the duo as they offer ‘pure profits in the eyes of the accountants’.
United need a squad revamp but must sell players to comply with financial rules.
Selling Garnacho, Mainoo and Marcus Rashford will help them abide by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Mainoo has been linked with Bayern Munich, but journalist Florian Plettenberg has debunked the report. He claims he is ‘not a topic’ for the club.
Chelsea may also be interested in the talented midfielder, but that report seems wide of the mark.
Garnacho has been linked with an exit, with Napoli considering him a priority to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is on the cusp of joining Paris Saint-Germain.
United have reportedly rejected Napoli’s £40million bid for the Argentine winger. It is unclear whether they will return with an improved offer.
Neville is unhappy that United could be considering the sale of Mainoo and Garnacho because the duo are academy graduates.
He told The Overlap: “I did not like it when Chelsea started selling their academy players in the first team as Aston Villa and Newcastle did.
“I certainly don’t like United having to sell players. I get it when they are on the cusp of playing, but you cannot if they are in the first team.”
However, the former England international has agreed with the club’s decision to sell Rashford, who has ‘fallen out’ with manager Ruben Amorim.
