Tottenham’s defence has been ravaged by injuries this season, which is why it has been widely reported that Ange Postecoglou wants to add reinforcements to his backline this month.
One man who had allegedly caught the Lilywhites‘ attention was young centre-back Vitor Reis, who has been exceptional since breaking into Palmeiras starting eleven last year.
It was reported ahead of the January window that both Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool were plotting moves for Vitor Reis, but it turns out that both North London clubs have been beaten to the punch by Man City.
Man City agree deal for Vitor Reis
It is now being widely reported, including by reliable sources like Fabrizio Romano, that City have struck an agreement with Palmeiras for the transfer of Reis.
The Premier League champions will reportedly pay under €40m (£33.7m) for the 6-foot 1-inch ball-playing centre-back. Sky Sports have the figure down as £29.4m, with a deal in principle signed off.
The teenager is now expected to fly to Manchester to complete his medical, with the final documents now being prepared to make the transfer official.
Man City expected to sign another Spurs centre-back target
Reis is not the only Tottenham target who looks set to end up at City, with Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov also expected to follow the Brazilian to the Etihad Stadium.
It was extensively reported earlier this month that Khusanov was one of the names at the top of Spurs’ wishlist.
However, it is now being suggested that Pep Guardiola’s men are close to landing the 20-year-old in a deal worth £33m over the coming days as they look to revamp their defence.
