Ex-Red Sox Trade Bust Reportedly Lands Contract With Rebuilding NL Club

Franchy Cordero has a new home years after hitting the occasional moonshot for the Boston Red Sox.

The 30-year-old reportedly signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals, as first reported by Just Baseball’s Aram Leighton. Washington marks Cordero’s fifth MLB organization after stops with the Red Sox, New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres.

Cordero’s Red Sox resume leads with a walk-off grand slam to beat the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park in May 2022. The outfielder slashed .209/.279/.350 with a .629 OPS and nine home runs in 132 games for Boston.

Cordero moves to the National League East with a Nationals team that finished 71-91 in fourth place in the NL East last season. The division featured three playoff teams: the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves.
