Tottenham may have to negotiate with Man City to sign striker – Expert
Tottenham Hotspur may have to enter into negotiations with Manchester City to sign one of their rumoured striker targets this month as the Premier League champions might activate their buy-back clause.
Tottenham still contenders for Premier League striker
Most of the speculation over the last few days has been regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani, with Spurs thought to have made progress in their efforts to sign the PSG star.
While it is clear that the Frenchman is a top target, it turns out that Spurs are also eyeing another striker from within the Premier League.
Just a couple of days ago, journalist Ben Jacobs insisted that Tottenham cannot be ruled out of the race for Ipswich striker Liam Delap even though Chelsea are currently the front-runners to sign him.
Man City could complicate Tottenham’s Liam Delap pursuit
Former Everton and Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness has suggested that Tottenham’s pursuit of Delap may not be entirely straightforward.
He revealed that City have a buy-back clause on their academy graduate, and could decide to trigger that and sell him on for a profit.
Wyness told Football Insider: “I’ve been speaking to friends of mine who know Liam Delap’s career and have followed him very closely. They rate him very highly. They think he’s a classic forward. He’s physical, built, quick, young – he’s got all the right talents.
“City have got the buy-back but I think if they get Marmoush, they may be prepared to do a deal to bring him back and re-sell him. I do think he’ll go elsewhere in the Premier League. He’ll be on the list of most clubs who are looking at striking options.”
Spurs may not turn to Liam Delap until the summer
Tottenham may be eyeing Delap as the eventual replacement for Richarlison when the Brazilian is offloaded, which is likely to happen in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou would likely prefer a more versatile option this window as Tottenham need reinforcements in the wide areas.
Delap will not be able to offer that as he is an out-and-out centre-forward, who would only serve as a backup to Dominic Solanke. It might not make sense for Spurs to invest £35m-£40m in that sort of player.
