Arsenal have great record vs Tottenham under Arteta

A loss in the North London Derby stings more than any other result. For Tottenham, this has been happening more often than not over the last 4 and a half years.

Tottenham took advantage of Mikel Arteta’s first few years in charge of Arsenal. Spurs secured three back-to-back wins against their main rivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, as time has gone on, Arsenal have taken control of the fixture. Spurs have only secured one point from the last 5 games against Arsenal and their last win against them came in May 2022.

Spurs need solutions for Arsenal’s set-pieces

Since Ange Postecoglou took charge, defending set pieces has become a contentious issue. Last year, Tottenham were one of the Premier League sides most vulnerable at set pieces. This year, their defence has improved from set-pieces, but Arsenal remain a tangible threat.

Spurs lost the last North London Derby to a Gabriel goal from a corner. The match before that, Spurs conceded two goals from corners in a 3-2 loss. Even during Postecoglou’s first NLD, Arsenal were awarded a penalty after the ball struck Cristian Romero on the arm during the disarray from defending a corner.

The presence of Radu Dragusin in the air and new goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky’s preference to claim crosses may aid Spurs in their set-piece defence. However, they will still need to be prepared for the threat and attacking versatility Arsenal present in those situations.

Bukayo Saka is a signficant absence

Over the last ten fixtures between Spurs and Arsenal, the standout goalscorer has been Heung-min Son. No player has scored more goals across these games.

However, Bukayo Saka has been the standout attacking threat. He has scored 3 goals, had 3 assists attributed to him and uniquely, caused Spurs to score 3 own goals.

Arsenal are still a comprehensive attacking unit, but the absence of their star player may be key to turning the tides of recent NLD results.
