A true David vs. Goliath clash

Spurs claimed victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool just under five days ago and are now going toe-to-toe with National League outfit Tamworth.

The two teams have just under 100 places between them in the English football pyramid, with Spurs’ opponents today being one of only three part-time teams in the fifth tier of English football. The Lamb Ground, today’s venue, has an artificial pitch and a capacity of just 4,000.

Ange Postecoglou will be expecting to start his 2024/25 FA Cup campaign with a win after crashing out of last year’s competition to runners-up Manchester City.

Over the duration of the first half, we analysed each player’s individual performance, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Let’s take a look at our Tamworth vs Tottenham player ratings.

Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Tamworth

Antonin Kinsky: Spurs’ new goalkeeper was tested early on and had to be strong at set-pieces as Tamworth fired them in over and over again. He dealt with them well, though. 7.

Pedro Porro: Porro was disappointing as he was ineffective offensively and in the other third, he was getting tormented by a sales assistant from Zara. 3.

Radu Dragusin: Dragusin didn’t have much to do, although he did nearly put Tamworth through on goal at one point. 4.

Archie Gray: Gray was composed on the ball despite constant jeers from Tamworth fans, and posed a threat at set pieces. Again, he didn’t have much defending to do. 5.

Sergio Reguilon: Reguilon was the more lively of the two fullbacks but he looked quite shaky on the ball. 4.

Yves Bissouma: Bissouma looked completely out of place on this pitch, as his technical prowess was levels above anyone else on the field. 7.

Pape Sarr: Sarr wasn’t his usual self and struggled to gain control of the ball at times. He tried to link up with Bissouma but was limited opportunities. 4.

James Maddison: Maddison was desperate to get his name on the scoresheet as he was one of the few players to have a shot. He fired one over the bar and later had another two saved by the Tamworth keeper. 5.

Brennan Johnson: Brennan wasn’t in the game for the majority of the half, his lack of technical ability proving to hinder him. He tried a few crosses into the box that were either massively overhit or didn’t find a Tottenham shirt, 2.

Timo Werner: It seemed that every time Timo got on the ball, he lost it. He honestly looked like he didn’t want to be there. 1.

Mikey Moore: Returning from an illness that had him out since the end of October, Mikey struggled to have a real impact, much like the rest of the team. 4.
