Cunha has been one of the best forwards on show in the Premier League over the last 18 months and he appears to have taken his game up another level this season.

The 25-year-old has found the back of the net 10 times and provided another four assists in 19 Premier League outings this season, and his displays have reportedly attracted the attention of several Premier League sides.

Tottenham are allegedly one of the clubs who have shown interest in Cunha, while the Lilywhites are thought to be facing competition from the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle and Man Utd for the player.

Much to the disappointment of Spurs and other suitors, it broke earlier this week that Cunha is set to put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the Molineux Stadium.

David Ornstein has now confirmed that the forward is on the verge of signing a new deal with Wolves, and he has handed Tottenham and his other admirers an even bigger blow by revealing that the deal does not contain a release clause.

The Athletic reporter said on NBC Sports: “They (Wolves) are on the verge of signing Matheus Cunha to a new contract, which would come as a massive boost to everyone at Molineux. The deal that is proposed is four and a half years with the option of a further 12 months.

“There is a conversation about a relegation release clause. But, if they were to get relegated, he would leave anyway, so I think that’s largely a moot point.

“If they were to stay in the Premier League, there will be no release clause in this new deal, Wolves don’t offer those. He’s a top player. He has got interest from Arsenal and others in the so-called top six.”

Spurs have turned to other options

Tottenham might have been made aware of this impending development by Cunha’s representatives, which is seemingly why they have turned their attention to other forwards.

The man who is now being most heavily linked with a move to N17 is PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani, with some outlets even suggesting that the Lilywhites are front-runners to secure the Frenchman.
