Tottenham shortlisted two managers to replace Postecoglou before Liverpool win
Tottenham Hotspur reportedly identified two Premier League managers as potential options to take over from Ange Postecoglou before the Carabao Cup win over Liverpool.
Tottenham not thinking about sacking Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham are currently rooted to the bottom half of the table, languishing in 12th place, having lost 10 of the 20 Premier League matches they have played this season.
However, despite their poor run of results, reports indicate that the club’s hierarchy are not considering sacking Postecoglou for now.
Daniel Levy and co allegedly remain confident that the Australian can turn things around and get the club back up the table.
Tottenham identify two potential Postecoglou replacements
The above claim has been backed up by TBR Football, who also say that Postecoglou still has the full support of Levy.
It is explained that the Tottenham top brass are understanding of the injury crisis that the club are dealing with. The Spurs chairman believes that Postecoglou has performed as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
However, the Spurs hierarchy have started doing their due diligence and have come up with a two-man shortlist to replace Postecoglou if he does not turn things around.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola are said to be the two candidates that Spurs are considering for the role.
The publication adds that the Dane and the Spaniard have both impressed the Tottenham decision-makers with the impact they have had on the Bees and the Cherries respectively.
Tottenham hierarchy are right to make contingency plans
Even if Levy, Lange and co are fully behind Postecoglou and want to give him the resources he needs to turn things around, they will not be doing their job if they do not work on contingency plans.
They have to plan for the worst-case scenario, and it would thus make sense to identify the best candidates should things continue to go south for the 59-year-old at Tottenham.
Iraola seems like the outstanding candidate among the managers in the Premier League, given the way he carries himself and the style of football that he has implemented at Bournemouth.
