Tottenham return to winning ways

Despite sitting 12th in the Premier League table, Tottenham Hotspur’s season is on a promising track in the cup tournaments. Their 1-0 win against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final gives them a slender advantage to take into the second leg.

The Carabao Cup, Europa League and FA Cup are avenues through which Tottenham have their best chance of trophy success this season. A result at Anfield could see Spurs reach a cup final for the first time since 2021.

Ange Postecoglou has historically won a trophy in his second season during every club managerial appointment. When Ange made this statement earlier in the season, it was treated as an act of unfettered hubris.

Ange Postecoglou questioned about his trophy record once again

In his post-match interview on Sky Sports, Ange Postecoglou’s statement about winning a trophy in his second season was quoted back to him.

The quote came as part of a question about whether a trophy feels even more possible after his side’s win against Liverpool.

In response, Postecoglou said (Sky Sports Main Event 08/01/25 22:45): “People can keep mocking me about it, but we will see”.

Questioning Ange’s record reveals a hope that Spurs fail

Ange Postecoglou made a verifiable statement about his previous management credentials. The incessant questioning around it is an irritation at the assertion that Tottenham could win something.

Tottenham failing to get over the line is football media’s favourite joke. Some of Tottenham’s previous managers adhered to this rhetoric and said that Tottenham will never change. It seems to frustrate some that Ange Postecoglou holds a self-belief that will not break. That he should conform to the expectations of English football and fall in line.

The season has had rough patches, but Spurs fans should not fail to recognise that Postecoglou is a manager who whole-heartedly advocates for the success of Tottenham Hotspur.
