MLB Execs Predict Elite Red Sox Prospect Will Win Rookie Of The Year
The Boston Red Sox have a handful of prospects who could potentially make their way to the big leagues in 2025.
And none of them might have as big of an impact as Roman Anthony once he gets to the majors.
Front office executives from around MLB certainly see it playing out that way. They voted Anthony to be this upcoming season’s American League Rookie of the Year in a preseason poll executed by MLB Pipeline. The 20-year-old outfielder received 19.1% of the votes, which actually tied him with Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe.
Unlike Jobe, Anthony didn’t get a cup of coffee in the big leagues last season, but he did tear through the Red Sox farm system en route to becoming Baseball America’s No. 1 prospect.
And MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo thinks the Red Sox will be hard-pressed to keep Anthony at Triple-A for long, given the contributions he could make with Boston.
“The Red Sox outfield is pretty full at present, but there clearly is some sentiment that the organization will make room for Anthony’s bat after he finished the 2024 season with a combined .894 OPS at age 20,” Mayo wrote.
There’s a reason why there’s so much buzz around Anthony. The 2022 second-round pick batted .291 with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs to go along with 21 stolen bases across Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester last season. Anthony really raked with Worcester, slashing .344/.463/.519 in 35 games.
He isn’t the only Red Sox prospect with major hype around him, either. Kristian Campbell earned 8.5% of the AL Rookie of the Year votes from executives.
With Anthony and Campbell just one step away from the big leagues, it sure is looking like the youngsters could make a sizable difference in a Red Sox uniform in 2025.
