Patriots Rumors: Key Update On Eliot Wolf’s Front Office Role

The Patriots made a big coaching change, but interestingly kept the front office intact.

New England fired head coach Jerod Mayo after beating the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, a result that cost it the No.1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Owner Robert Kraft confirmed there would not be any other changes unless the next head coach desired it.

That meant Eliot Wolf and the rest of the front office kept their jobs despite a poor draft and lack of quality free-agent signings. Kraft cited the change in philosophy, structure and process within the front office as a key reason for retaining Wolf, who will play a part in finding the next head coach.

However, NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry offered a key update on how fluid Wolf’s position could be.

“There is no guarantee Wolf will be leading the personnel department in 2025,” the Patriots insider wrote Tuesday.

In an NBC Sports Boston video, Perry added that if a new head coach wanted to bring in their own executive to lead the front office, the Krafts would approve of it. Perry also highlighted how Wolf isn’t formally the general manager, but instead the executive vice president of player personnel.

Wolf still is under contract, so it’s likely he’ll stay on next season. However, his leadership role will be the one that could be in flux as the Patriots try to find their next head coach.
