Tottenham blow as Man City enter the race for exciting centre-back talent
Tottenham’s chances of landing their top centre-back target just got diminished as the North London club discover that Manchester City have now entered the race.
Tottenham are big fans of Ligue 1 starlet Abdukodir Khusanov
If you have been following Spurs Web’s coverage, you would know that a number of outlets over recent weeks have all talked up Tottenham’s interest in Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, who is thought to be at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist.
In fact, some sources indicate that Spurs have already opened talks regarding a deal for the Uzbekistan international.
However, Ange Postecoglou‘s men are not the only Premier League side eyeing the 20-year-old, with Chelsea also alleged to be hot on his trail.
Man City enter race to sign Abdukodir Khusanov
Fabrizio Romano has just delivered further bad news for Spurs by revealing that City have now added Khusanov’s name to their summer shopping list.
The journalist says that the Premier League champions are keeping ‘well informed’ of the pacy centre-back’s situation as they look to bolster their defence in January.
However, Romano adds that there are also ‘several other top clubs’ interested in the pacy defender, who is thought of by many as ‘one of the best talents in his position’.
Tottenham may have an advantage over City
Khusanov will want to go to a club where he is likely to get game time and Spurs may be able to convince him that he has more chance of playing at N17 than he does at the Etihad.
Additionally, Postecoglou has a track record of handing opportunities to young players, which may convince the Uzbek that a move to Tottenham would be the right next step for him at this stage of his career.
However, one feels that there are plenty of twists and turns left in this transfer saga, with more clubs likely to enter the equation over the coming weeks.
