Five Tottenham players can now speak to other clubs about transfers

0 8

Tottenham will soon have to make some big decisions

The January transfer window will very much be about reinforcing the squad rather than trimming it, with Tottenham clearly needing more bodies through the door to cope with the demands of competing in multiple competitions.

While the Lilywhites will not be considering allowing barely any of their fringe players to leave this month, there could be an exodus in the summer.

This is because a number of their first-team starts are now in the final six months of their contracts, which means that they are free to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England.

Five Spurs players who can talk to other sides

This includes captain Heung-min Son, who has had a lacklustre season and faces question marks about his future. However, Spurs are well protected with the South Korean, having the option to extend his deal by another year.

Experienced Tottenham duo, Fraser Forster and Ben Davies, who have both had important roles to play this season amidst the club’s injury crisis, also have just six months left on their contracts.

The same is true of Sergio Reguilon, who has a decision to make on whether to leave in January or wait until the summer to depart on a free transfer.

Finally, goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman also sees his current deal run out in the summer and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Tottenham academy graduate.

Spurs face a difficult decision regarding Ben Davies

There is no doubt that Spurs are going to activate the option to extend Son’s contract. Even if the club were contemplating moving him on, it would still be in their interest to extend his deal.

It seems like Forster’s and Whiteman’s time at the club is likely to come to an end in the summer as Spurs look set to rebuild their goalkeeping stocks, while Reguilon could depart the club this month.

The big decision Postecoglou faces is regarding Davies, with the Australian having to decide whether to keep him around as a squad player. There is also the possibility that the Welshman might decide to leave rather than stay and be the fourth/fifth choice centre-back.
