Tottenham need a stronger squad for multiple competitions

Spurs’ injury crisis has caused a significant drop in form over the last six weeks. With two wins from their last ten matches, Tottenham need to find solutions which don’t seem to exist amongst the currently available players.

More than just missing key starting players like Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero or Guglielmo Vicario, the injuries are affecting depth in the forward line. Fatigue from overuse is an issue across the front, which is leading to mental and technical errors.

It is imperative that Tottenham add players who are a strong stylistic fit and able to hit the ground running to actively contribute towards the remainder of the season.

RB Leipzig fear Tottenham will send Timo Werner back

According to BILD, RB Leipzig fear that Tottenham will not activate the purchase option for Timo Werner at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Werner had fallen out of favour at Leipzig before the first period of his loan at Tottenham. With one year remaining on his contract, the Bundesliga side are concerned they will have to return to paying Werner his €10m annual salary.

The prospect of Werner being sent back during January however, is not under consideration. The implication is that there is no clause in the loan deal which allows for early termination.

Tottenham should not consider signing Timo Werner permanently

With only one goal scored in the Carabao Cup and only three assists in the Premier League, Werner’s output is not at a requisite level for a senior player. The value he provided last year with his pace and understanding of Posetcoglou’s system, has not been replicated.

Even if he can recover some form, with Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore able to bring greater versatility to the role on the left wing, it simply doesn’t make sense to trigger the purchase option.

With countless matches still to come across January and onwards, Spurs need Werner to at least contribute with minutes. However, with Mikey Moore and Richarlison hopefully set to return to action soon, Werner’s involvement will likely decrease as the season goes on.
