Red Sox Rumors: Boston Yet To Have Meeting With Intriguing Starter

The Boston Red Sox already made two notable additions to the starting rotation in Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler. That doesn’t include the future investment in lefty Patrick Sandoval.

Could Boston still have another rotation addition up its sleeve?

Roki Sasaki got posted this winter to sign with an MLB club after a brilliant start in Japan for the 23-year-old’s career. At this point, however, The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier reported Tuesday that the Red Sox have not met or set up a meeting with the dynamic right-hander.

“For now, however, the Red Sox continue to wait to hear whether they’ll get the opportunity to meet with the coveted starter,” Speier wrote Tuesday.

Sasaki impressed during the 2023 World Baseball Classic and sports a 2.10 ERA in four seasons in NPB in Japan. The Red Sox could be in store to take their rotation to another tier if they can win the Sasaki sweepstakes in the international bonus pool in the Jan. 15 window.

“Right now, we do not (have a meeting scheduled),” Red Sox chief baseball officer told Speier. “We’ve obviously been engaged and would welcome the opportunity to participate in the process, and hope that we’ll have the chance to do that.”
