Match Preview: Rochdale (H)

0 3

It’s Boxing Day football at Mill Farm as the Coasters take on local side Rochdale in the Vanarama National League.

It will be the second time the two sides face one another this season after their earlier meeting in the FA Cup back in October.

It’s a return to home action for Kevin Phillips’ side who are unbeaten in their last two outings at Mill Farm against Ebbsfleet United and Eastleigh.

However the Coasters will be looking to bounce back from defeat last time out after falling to a 4-1 loss against Solihull despite Charlie Jolley grabbing his fourth goal in four games.

Opposition dugout: Jimmy McNulty

The Dale managed by former player Jimmy McNulty. The 39-year-old joined Rochdale back in 2015 and has 197 appearances for the club. He initially took charge on an interim basis in August 2022 and then again in March 2023, taking charge permanently after the club’s relegation to the National League.

McNulty has had a playing career across the Football League amassing over 400 appearances, featuring spells for Macclesfield, Stockport, Brighton, Barnsley, Tranmere and Bury.

He secured a mid-table finish for Rochdale in his first spell in charge and has seen his side make a strong start to this campaign.

One to watch: Kairo Mitchell

Having signed from Notts County in June 2023, the 26-year-old has been a key attacking threat for the Dales. He has 22 goals in 49 appearances, including finding the back of the net nine times so far this season.

Having begun his career at Leicester City’s academy, Mitchell also had spells at Nuneaton Town, Coalville Town, Dartford, King’s Lynn Town and Chesterfield, his best return being 21 goals in 57 games for Coalville.

Born in England, the striker has represented Grenada at international level, earning 15 caps and scoring twice for the Caribbean nation.
