Bruins Newcomer Had Hilarious Experience In TD Garden Return

A Bruins newcomer received a hilariously memorable homecoming Saturday.

It was a full-circle moment when Boston acquired Oliver Wahlstrom off waivers. The Yarmouth, Maine native became a viral sensation with his electric goals at TD Garden when he was just a kid. The 24-year-old made his Black and Gold debut Thursday but Saturday will be the first time he plays in the arena he grew up watching B’s games as a kid.

However, there was a minor hiccup when he arrived for morning skate.

“I actually had some trouble getting through security,” Wahlstrom told reporters, per Scott McLaughlin of WEEI. “I went through the parking garage area and didn’t get in for a little bit, for a couple minutes. I kind of had some idea of what doors to go through, so I knew where to walk. But it’s pretty special, you know, just walking to the rink. Where I grew up, watched so many Bruins games, so it’s cool.”

Wahlstrom revealed he’s gotten many calls and texts from friends and family, some of whom will be in attendance. The former Boston College forward revealed it was a Christmas gift, and he hopes to make his return to TD Garden a memorable one.

The Bruins play the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday with puck drop scheduled at 7 p.m. ET and full coverage on NESN starting at 6 p.m.
