Mike Vrabel To Patriots? NFL Insider Shares Notable Insight
Should the Patriots move on from first-year head coach Jerod Mayo, Mike Vrabel apparently would be interested in coaching in New England.
“Mike Vrabel would be interested in coaching for the New England Patriots,” Patriots insider Tom E. Curran said on NBC Sports Boston’s “Arbella Early Edition” on Tuesday night, per radio host Nick Cattles. “I think that he (Vrabel) looks at the Patriots, and despite the warts, says, I’ll go back there.”
Mayo’s job security has been a topic of conversation and uncertainty, especially after New England’s Week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Not only was Mayo’s team flat coming off its bye week, but Mayo himself made matters worse when he threw offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt under the bus with his postgame comments.
Vrabel, of course, is a familiar name to those in New England as a Patriots Hall of Famer. He was thought to be a coaching candidate for the Patriots immediately after Robert Kraft fired Bill Belichick, prior to the immediate hiring of Mayo.
Currently a senior consultant for the Cleveland Browns, who was fired by the Tennessee Titans after the 2023 campaign, Vrabel is expected to be the top coaching candidate this offseason.
Given Mayo’s downward spiral and Vrabel’s well-established accume, it would make plenty of sense for the Patriots to tab Vrabel as their next head coach.
