Tottenham make key transfer decision after Ange Postecoglou U-turn
Tottenham Hotspur have made a decision on the future of one attacker after Ange Postecoglou had a change of heart about the player in light of his recent struggles.
Ange Postecoglou’s public criticism of Tottenham man
Postecoglou was evidently not happy with what he saw from Timo Werner in the Europa League clash against Rangers on Thursday, with the Tottenham head coach taking him off at half-time.
Additionally, the Australian publicly criticised the wide-forward after the game, making it clear that his performance was unacceptable.
That came as a surprise to many Spurs fans as Postecoglou usually refrains from singling out players for criticism.
Tottenham make Timo Werner transfer decision
GiveMeSport have now revealed that Spurs have decided against activating the £8.5m option to buy the German international at the end of the season.
The report explains that Postecoglou was previously one of Werner‘s biggest supporters when key decision-makers within Tottenham were less convinced that he was worth backing.
However, with the Spurs boss now having a change of heart on the former Chelsea man, his chances of making a permanent switch to North London are said to be over.
Werner is now expected to return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season before assessing his options on his next move.
Will Werner get opportunities to change Ange’s mind?
Six months is a long time in football and we have seen players come back from the dead to rescue their Tottenham careers before.
However, following Postecoglou’s latest statement on Werner, it appears unlikely that the winger will get too many opportunities to change the Australian’s mind.
With Spurs likely to enter the market for an attacker in January, the 28-year-old will likely find himself falling further down the pecking order soon.
