Pressure continues to mount on Ange Postecoglou at Spurs

There is no hiding from the fact that Postecoglou is a man under serious pressure at the moment, with calls continuing to grow for the Tottenham head coach to be sacked.

The Lilywhites’ failure to beat Rangers in the Europa League was the latest blot in the Australian’s copybook.

Spurs desperately need all three points against the Saints on Sunday to ease the pressure on their head coach and to ensure that they do not completely fall away from the race for Champions League qualification.

Kasey Keller backs Postecoglou to turn things around

Keller admits that the way Tottenham have been throwing away leads of late is simply not good enough, but he believes that his former club cannot afford another failed project.

The American remarked that Spurs need to give Ange Postecoglou the chance to turn things around.

Keller told Odds Now: “He [Postecoglou] has to adjust his tactics during games. To be 2-0 up against Brighton and Chelsea and lose both isn’t good. I don’t know whether it’s the players and relationships on the pitch, but this shouldn’t be happening.

“You can’t keep firing managers, so Ange is the man to get Spurs back on track and he can do it. Firstly, get all your best players on the pitch. This is key. Then you can start to build up a good run of form.

“Spurs have a crucial game against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final [on 19th December] and can reignite their season with a win.”

Keller admits Spurs need to improve fast under Ange Postecoglou

However, Keller acknowledged that the kind of inconsistency that the Lilywhites have shown over recent weeks is not acceptable.

Despite the club’s injury woes, the former goalkeeper admits that the side should be delivering better performances than they have been of late.

The 55-year-old added: “Spurs have been inconsistent the past few weeks and it’s one step forward and two steps back. One step forward was a brilliant 4-0 win at Manchester City when everything went right. Maddison played a super game and defensively Spurs put everything on the line to keep that clean sheet and to record such a big win.

“Then you think Spurs can follow this up with a good run of form. But to follow up with three home performances which include a loss to Ipswich, draw to Fulham and then a loss to Chelsea being 2-0 up. I know there are injuries, but Spurs need to be able to perform better.”
