Match Preview: Sutton United (A)

0 4

It’s the second of two back-to-back away games on Saturday as the Coasters travel to South London to face Sutton United.

The Coasters will be looking to bounce back from the midweek defeat to Hartlepool where Kevin Phillips’ side were very unlucky to leave the North East without a point.

The trip to South London is the first of two meetings between the two sides before they meet again in January at Mill Farm.

Opposition Dugout: Steve Morrison

Appointed as head coach in January 2024, moving from Isthmian League Hornchurch, with the Essex club seven points clear at the top of the Premier Division when he left. He previously spent just under a year as manager of Championship side Cardiff City, steering them clear of the relegation zone in the 2021-22 season, having previously been Head Coach of their Under 23s. Steve’s playing career as a striker saw him make nearly 700 senior appearances, half of which were for Millwall in three spells, and score nearly 250 goals. He also played for Northampton Town, Bishop’s Stortford, Stevenage, for whom he scored the winner in the 2007 FA Trophy final, Norwich City, Leeds United and Shrewsbury Town. He was capped 20 times by Wales.

One to Watch: Will Davies

Striker signed in summer 2024 after leaving York City, who had signed him in November from Braintree Town. Came to prominence with Southern League Premier Division Central team Leiston, where he scored over fifty goals in two seasons, helping them to the play-offs in the 2022-23 season and winning the Supporters’ Club Player of the Year award. He joined Braintree at the start of last season, and the continuation of his scoring form at the higher level earned him a move to York, where he scored five National League goals. He had a spell on loan at Bromley at the end of the season.
