Blues Post On Social Media After Hiring Ex-Bruin Jim Montgomery

Jim Montgomery is not a stranger to the Blues organization.

Sunday’s coaching change in St. Louis marked a return for Montgomery, who found a new head-coaching job five days after he was fired by the Boston Bruins. The struggling Blues cut ties with head coach Drew Bannister to sign Montgomery to a five-year contract.

Montgomery was an assistant in St. Louis for three seasons before he took the job with the Bruins in late June 2022. The 2022-23 Jack Adams Award winner also played for the Blues, appearing in 67 games for the franchise in his rookie season in 1993-94.

So after the transition from Bannister to Montgomery was finalized, the Blues celebrated the move as a homecoming.

“Welcome home, Monty!” the organization posted to its official X account.

Montgomery is set to serve his first game as Blues head coach Monday night when St. Louis takes on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. His first clash with the Bruins probably will have to wait until the 2025-26 campaign, as Boston and St. Louis already wrapped up their regular-season series.
