Tottenham’s former scout Mick Brown believes that Ange Postecoglou could be in danger of losing his job if he does not make one big change.

11 games into the new Premier League season, there is not much evidence that Tottenham have fixed the issues that plagued them last season, with the Lilywhites having lost five league matches already this campaign.

The latest of those against Ipswich was the most bruising, with some supporters now starting to question if the Australian is capable of turning this ship around (Goal.com).

The Spurs boss has taken responsibility for the team’s lack of consistency, admitting that it is something that he needs to fix (Football.London).

Postecoglou asked to make a big change

Mick Brown does not believe that Postecoglou is in any immediate danger of losing his job, but he insisted that the Tottenham head coach’s stubbornness might be his undoing.

He suggested that unless the 59-year-old changes his ways to make Spurs tighter at the back, the pressure will continue to build on him until it is too much.

The former Tottenham scout told Football Insider: “When you suffer a couple of shock results, you’re going to be under pressure. I don’t think he’s in any immediate danger, but they’re far too inconsistent and that must be a concern.

“When you’re winning games 3-2 or 4-3, everybody’s happy as long as they’re the ones with the four. If they’re on the other side, it’s not good enough.

“They give far too many goals away and that’s a huge flaw in their game. On a good day, they can play teams off the park, but they concede goals for fun and that always puts you at risk of losing. And that’s something that has been a problem since he took over without much change.

“Every few games they give away silly goals and it’s tough to take, that’s why the manager is facing some pressure because they won’t change. It’s fine to stick by your principles, but if you don’t make changes, the situation won’t change and that pressure will continue to build until eventually it’s too much.”

Postecoglou will not change his methods

The jury is still out on whether Postecoglou can turn things around at Spurs and take the club to where they want to get to.

However, we know for a fact that the Tottenham head coach is not one to change his principles, having a deep-seated belief on how the game must be played.

In fact, that is one of the reasons why he was appointed in the first place, with his commitment to attractive, attacking football making him an attractive candidate for the club, who were looking to return to their DNA.

Postecoglou certainly deserves time to show that he can achieve the things he has set out to, and he will get that, with the Spurs hierarchy unlikely to pull a plug on this project anytime soon.
