Archie Gray: a future Tottenham talent

Archie Gray is one of Tottenham’s most exciting prospects. With his excellent performances for Leeds United, both at right back and in midfield, the 18-year-old earned his move to Spurs.

Gray was an important player for Leeds, making 52 appearances in all competitions last season and impressing with his versatility to play box-to-box, quality on the ball and maturity far beyond his age.

Life at Spurs has not been easy so far for Gray, with the youngster starting more cup than league matches, but he has his best years ahead of him, and with Rodrigo Bentancur facing a seven match ban, many supporters are eager to see him given a chance to play as a midfielder.

Gray’s family’s exciting at him joining Spurs

Anyone would be delighted to see a close family member join a team as big as Tottenham and this is especially true of Gray’s grandfather, great-uncle and father, who are all former professional football players.

But perhaps even more significant is that they are all from Glasgow and support Scottish Premiership giants, Celtic, the team Ange Postecoglou managed before arriving at N17, where he won five of the six domestic competitions he competed in.

Gray appeared on the latest ‘Driving home with…’ episode on the club’s official YouTube channel, where Matt Haines drives a Spurs player home from training and interviews him, and he was shown an AI-generated fact which said “Gray grew up a big Celtic fan and is excited to face Rangers in the Europa League.”

Gray confirmed this and said: “My family, Eddie, they’re all from Glasgow, and they all support Celtic so I always follow them and I’m definitely very excited to play Rangers.

Asked whether his family said ‘yes please’ when they discovered he would play under Postecoglou, Gray laughed and said: “Yeah, and all my family were like that as well, especially Eddie and Frank and my dad (Andy), they were really excited that I’ve got the opportunity to work under him.”

Gray will be a special player for Tottenham

It will be exciting to see Gray play in the pivot midfield role for Spurs. Although he spent most of his football last season at right back, the middle of the pitch is where he plays his best football.

As Tottenham’s only registered right back other than Pedro Porro in the Europa League, he should be guaranteed a few more games in that competition and with him keen not to be loaned out in January, he will hopefully be rewarded for his fight with more regular appearances throughout the next calendar year.
