Ange Postecoglou’s record in his first 50 matches compared to the likes of Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp at Arsenal and Liverpool respectively suggests that some Spurs fans are overreacting.
Some supporters have had enough
Going by the discourse on social media over the past few days, it is clear that some Tottenham fans have already given up on the current project under Postecoglou.
While they are undoubtedly still in the minority, they are an increasingly vocal one, and those voices will continue getting louder if the 59-year-old does not turn the ship around soon.
However, when at this stage of his Premier League career, Postecoglou’s numbers are not too dissimilar to some other managers who have had success in the division.
How Postecoglou compares to Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp
Both Arteta and Klopp had difficult starts to their spells at Arsenal and Liverpool respectively, taking a couple of years to really put their imprint on the side and find consistency.
The Spaniard and the German both had 26 wins in their first 50 Premier League matches at those clubs, while Postecoglou has won 25 of his first 49 games.
The Tottenham hierarchy will be hoping that just like Arteta and Klopp, the 59-year-old manages to turn things around and gets Spurs competing near the top end of the table if he is backed.
Spurs are still relatively well-placed
Amidst all the extreme reactions following Tottenham‘s loss to Ipswich, we should not lose sight of the fact that Spurs are just three points off third place. That shows how tight the Premier League is this season, with all teams barring Liverpool struggling for consistency.
We are also going strong in the cup competitions, which is why it is ridiculous to suggest that Postecoglou‘s job should be under threat.
