Mac Jones To Make Second Start For Jaguars, But Disaster Awaits

The Jacksonville Jaguars are essentially using quarterback Mac Jones like a crash-test dummy.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (the one they actually want to play) is dealing with a “significant” shoulder sprain, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, which has thrust Jones into the starting lineup.

Jones — in the perfect encapsulation of his career — made his first start against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, found the endzone early, celebrated like he’d just won the Super Bowl and then devolved into chaos and threw a back-breaking interception in what ultimately became an avoidable loss. It’s almost as if he’s been following a script this entire time.

Jacksonville would probably love to go back to Lawrence, but according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they’ll sit him for their last game before the bye week against the Detroit Lions. What does that mean? Jones is back with the starters against one of the best defenses in the entire NFL.

Schefter also reported that there’s optimism Lawrence can return after the bye, which means Sunday might be the day Jones’ career as a starting quarterback dies.

We hardly knew ye.
