Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree about Postecoglou job security at Spurs
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have given their two cents on whether Ange Postecoglou’s job at Tottenham is under threat.
Some Spurs fans have turned on Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town was the final straw for a section of the Spurs supporters, who are not convinced that Postecoglou is the man to turn things around.
There is no doubt that those fans are still in the minority, with the majority of Tottenham faithful still very much ready to give the Australian time to show what he can do.
However, 59-year-old will be aware that unless Spurs become more consistent with their results and performances, his detractors will grow louder and the pressure on him will continue intensifying.
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer in agreement about Postecoglou
Neither Lineker nor Shearer think that the Tottenham head coach is in any danger of losing his job at the moment. The Newcastle legend was appreciative of the fact that Postecoglou took responsibility for the Lilywhites’ lack of consistency and vowed to fix the issue.
Lineker said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “He (Postecoglou) in the area of being under pressure yet or not? I wouldn’t have thought so”
Shearer added: “No, don’t think so. He took responsibility didn’t he, he said it was his fault, his problem and he’s got to sort it out. But when you see them in the second half against Villa and beating City, it’s the inconsistency again, how long have we been saying that about Spurs?”
Refreshing to see a manager take responsibility
Two of Postecoglou’s predecessors, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, had the habit of going into self-preservation mode after losses, pinning them solely on the players and absolving themselves of any responsibility.
Postecoglou has done the opposite and accepted that ultimately, the buck stops with him. That is refreshing to hear and the fact that his first instinct is to always protect the players is why the Spurs squad will fight for him and be desperate to turn things around.
