What Jack Grealish previously said about Spurs transfer amid new rumours
Tottenham are reportedly making a move to sign Jack Grealish in January, but this is not the first time the club have tried to sign the former Man City star, who made some interesting comments about his failed move to Spurs in the past.
Jack Grealish in Tottenham’s sights
Football Transfers broke a few days ago that Tottenham are in talks with Grealish‘s camp regarding a sensational move to North London in January.
The report explained that Johan Lange, who previously worked with the winger at Aston Villa, has a good relationship with the player, and is the one spearheading the transfer pursuit.
The outlet alleged that Ange Postecoglou is a fan of the 29-year-old’s versatility, and believes he can offer competition to both Heung-min Son and James Maddison.
What Grealish said about potential Spurs switch in 2018
This is not the first time that Tottenham have tried to sign Grealish, with the Lilywhites famously coming close to getting him back in 2018 when Aston Villa were in the Championship.
The attacker would go on to help the Villans win promotion to the top flight during the 2018-19 season before taking the Premier League by storm.
A few months on from his failed move to Spurs in 2018, Grealish admitted that he was disappointed to see the move fall through as he felt he could have really kicked on with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
When asked if he was gutted that the move collapsed, the former Villa man said at the time (via The Telegraph): “Of course there’s going to be disappointment there. They’ve beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, they’re playing Barcelona in the Champions League next week.
“I felt that if I’d gone there I could have maybe been in the England squad by the end of the year. At the start of the season, my head was swivelled, it was all over the place. Even after the transfer window closed, until the end of August, I wasn’t right.”
Grealish is not a good fit for Postecoglou’s system
The Grealish to Tottenham rumours seem very odd as the Englishman is certainly not your typical Postecoglou winger.
Spurs are also pretty well equipped in the attacking midfield role, with Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison in their ranks, and Lucas Bergvall waiting in the wings.
Additionally, the Man City star does not fit in with the age profile Spurs have prioritised over the last couple of years, which is why this rumour does not seem like it has any legs.
