Roy Keane’s damning 14-word assessment of Man United in the wake of Erik ten Hag’s dismissal

0 12

Former Man United captain, Roy Keane, has never been backwards in coming forwards, and he’s delivered a brutal 14-word verdict in the wake of Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

After the 2-1 defeat against West Ham on Sunday, a match where the Man United players certainly didn’t help themselves again, the writing was always going to be on the wall for the Dutchman.

A club of United’s stature can’t have it’s men’s first-team languishing in 14th place in the English top-flight and already 12 points behind the leaders after just nine games.

Indeed, at present it seems that the current Red Devils vintage are about as far away from the team that Keane led as its possible to be.

It’s no wonder the former captain appeared to be on the verge of spontaneous combustion when he took to his official Instagram account.

A photo of Keane showed him glaring at the camera and, whilst economical with his words, got straight to the point.

‘In good teams, coaches hold players accountable,’ he wrote. ‘In great teams, players hold players accountable.’

Though Keane has seemingly become an acquired taste even for those United fans who used to sing his name heartily from the terraces, as ever, he’s spot on with his assessment.

It would seem that going right the way back to the Louis van Gaal era at the club, those donning the red shirt have woefully underperformed.

Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer, Rangnick and now ten Hag… in some cases, hugely successful managers in their own right before they pitched up at Old Trafford.

There’s a pattern that formed years ago and it’s one which has continued, and Keane is right to call it out.

If Ruben Amorim is the next to pick up the baton, he’s clearly got a job on his hands.
