Late Defeat At Tannadice

0 2

Goals in the 93rd and 99th minute from Dundee United meant that ten-man Hibs left Tannadice Park empty handed in the William Hill Premiership.

Despite overturning an early deficit and going into injury time 2-1 up, goals from Luca Stephenson and Meshack Ubochioma meant that David Gray's side were beaten in Dundee.

Warren O'Hora and Dwight Gayle got the goals for Hibs after Sam Dalby opened the scoring for the hosts, before Joe Newell was sent off late on for a second bookable offence, switching momentum back to United at the end.

The Hibees made two changes for the contest, with skipper Newell returning following injury and youngster Rudi Molotnikov also coming into the XI.

Despite chances in the opening exchanges for Hibs, including efforts from Molotnikov and Chris Cadden, it was United who struck first.

Glenn Middleton ran past Lewis Miller on the Terrors' left wing before crossing low into the box, with Dalby and O'Hora both stretching for the ball as it found the back of Joe Bursik's net.

The home side had the lead but Hibs continued to create chances, with O'Hora having a header tipped over the bar by Jack Walton before Newell's volley went close.

Just before the interval, the Hibees were level.

O'Hora claimed his first league goal for the Club to make it 1-1 at half-time, giving Hibs a deserved foothold in the game.

Newell's cross from a deep free-kick found Miller at the back post and the full-back nodded the ball into the path of O'Hora, with the Irishman smashing in a header off the underside of the bar and in.

The second half began in chaotic fashion. Martin Boyle returned from injury for Hibs, replacing Miller for the remainder of the game, which saw Cadden move to right-back.

Dundee United had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR quickly after the restart, but in the build-up to the goal Cadden picked up an injury which meant David Gray once again had to shuffle the pack: bringing Jack Iredale on for his Hibs debut as part of a back three, which meant Boyle moved to right wing-back.

Hibs had chances through Hyeokkyu Kwon and Molotnikov, but didn't find a second score until the 72nd minute when substitute Dwight Gayle nodded in a cross for his first Hibernian goal.

Hibs looked to see the game out but Newell's second yellow card of the game on 85 minutes came as a sucker punch to Gray's men.

Going into added time, the Hibees still held a slender lead before a cross into the box was spilled by Bursik and stabbed home by Stephenson.

With the final kick of the game, a loose cross bounced to Ubochioma who speculatively chipped a volley towards goal that hit the bar and bounced in.
