Chelsea looking to prove title credentials against Liverpool

0 2

Sunday’s Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield has all the makings of a real ‘clash of the titans.’

Enzo Maresca’s side headed into October’s international break a bit disappointed after being held to a 1-1 home draw by 10-man Nottingham Forest.

Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels made numerous outstanding saves, including a phenomenal double block to thwart Cole Palmer down the final stretch, knocking Chelsea down from a five-game winning run.

Palmer has maintained his scintillating form at Stamford Bridge, yet Maresca has urged his team not to become over-reliant on the England international, as per Express Sport.

But Chelsea will need their talismanic forward at his best to see off early Premier League pacesetters Liverpool for the first time since March 2021.

Even Contest

Since the Blues’ narrow 1-0 win on this ground three years ago, Chelsea and Liverpool have shared the spoils in five of their last six league meetings.

However, the only blemish on this run was the Reds’ thumping 4-1 victory in this corresponding fixture last season.

Interestingly, the two teams faced each other on three more occasions in other competitions during that sequence, with each clash ending level in regulation.

Goals have also been at a premium in this match-up.

Nine of the last 11 duels between these two teams have featured under 2.5 goals.

No Bridge, No Problem

Leaving the comforts of Stamford Bridge will unlikely clip Chelsea’s wings.

They have won all three away league games under Maresca by an aggregate score of 10-2, including a 3-0 thrashing of West Ham United last time out.

Chelsea’s free-scoring form on the road can be a decisive factor tomorrow, as they’re up against the division’s best-performing defensive team.

Arne Slot’s men have only conceded two league goals this season.

Chelsea Potential Starting XI

(4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Gusto, Disasi, Colwill, Veiga; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson
