United prepared to accept £45m loss to sell 24-year-old star, Ineos make huge decision - report

Manchester United are prepared to cut their losses on one of their big money signings next summer, according to Daily Mail.

The Red Devils have made some poor transfer decisions under the Glazers and one of those was the purchase of Antony from Ajax.

The Brazilian joined United for a staggering £85 million in the summer of 2022 and had a good start with three goals in as many games.

However, he has netted only nine more goals from his next 83 appearances in all competitions.

Antony has struggled to cope with the higher intensity of the Premier League. His one-dimensional playing style has been found out.

The 24-year-old generally likes to cut inside from the right wing with his left foot. He has barely created chances with his weaker right foot.

The Sao Paulo graduate is presently an unused substitute under manager Erik ten Hag and he could head for the exit door at the turn of the year.

United are prepared to loan him out in the next transfer window. The club believe a good run of performances could encourage bids.

The hierarchy are willing to sell him for around £40m next summer which would represent a huge £45m loss on the transfer fee paid to Ajax.

INEOS have made right decision on Antony

Antony had a lively beginning to his United career, but it is quite clear that he can’t cope with the higher pressing and intensity of the Premier League.

His fortunes could change with a move elsewhere. The Brazilian could be more effective in Serie A where the games are more tactical and less intense.

As things stand, his transfer value is pretty low. He is priced at only £17m by Transfermarkt and United are unlikely to sanction his sale in the January transfer window.

A loan is the right option for the short term. If Antony were to make a big impression, it could improve the club’s chances of recouping £40m for his sale next summer.

£40m does not seem realistic in our opinion, considering United will only receive £20m to £25m when Chelsea sign Jadon Sancho permanently at the end of the season.

Sancho had a positive loan stint with Borussia Dortmund earlier this year, but clubs were unwilling to match United’s reported valuation of £40m over the summer.
