Postecoglou’s mixed bag of results at Tottenham

Since becoming Tottenham Hotspur manager back in the summer of 2023, Ange Postecoglou has endured a turbulent time, not tasting defeat for his first ten league games before various injuries tore apart his side’s momentum

Postecoglou pieced together an impressive five-game unbeaten run over the past month up until the final game before the international break. Many fans were starting to believe in the Australian’s statement: ‘I always win things in my second year’. (BBC Sport)

A devastating loss to Brighton, however, has reignited many doubts around the Spurs manager who refuses to adopt a Plan B. The 59-year-old manager admitted that his team’s second-half collapse against Brighton was: “Probably the worst defeat we have had since I’ve been here. (Sky Sports)

Jason Cundy blasts fans wanting Postecoglou to be sacked

Whilst on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Cundy was asked what he thought about a selection of Tottenham fans wanting Postecoglou to be sacked.

The former defender exclaimed: “That’s utterly ridiculous. We have to go back to the time Chelsea beat you at your place, nearly a year ago now, and they went down to nine men.

“He’s trying to change the mindset of players, staff, board and the fans, no matter what happens this is how we play, this is the style this is the system.

“In the Premier League, you need to be adaptable, it isn’t one size fits all.”

Wayne Rooney says Postecoglou must adapt to succeed

Wayne Rooney has shown perhaps a less forgiving evaluation of Ange Postecoglou’s time at Spurs, especially when asked about Tottenham’s spectacular loss against Brighton.

The Man United legend said: “The way he [Postecoglou] is, Vincent Kompany was the same. He wants to play in a certain way and then you’re not picking up results.

“But I think Ange as well, sometimes, they are winning 2-0, just come in a little bit, try to be harder to score against, to be harder to give chances up and they maybe come away and win that game.

“You have to adapt. You have to change. If you are 2-0 down at half-time, you know Brighton are going to come out with something different. They have to! You have to be ready for that. You have to adapt. You have to be ready to change and you might go back to a back five towards the end of the game if you are winning.” (The Overlap)
