Arsenal and Man City are now both watching Tottenham’s top target

Tottenham Hotspur are not alone in their pursuit of one Premier League star, as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool are also all keen. But, there are questions being asked about the player’s current form.

Could Eberechi Eze thrive at top club?

It was strongly suggested all summer that Spurs would make a move for Crystal Palace star, Eberechi Eze, but the transfer never came through and he remains with the Eagles.

He’s not had the best start to the season, either, with his team still without a win and Eze registering just one goal so far.

Despite this, top clubs in the Premier League are still monitoring him closely, and there is a perception that, if he made the step up, he would flourish in a more productive team.

That’s the opinion of former Manchester United, Tottenham, and Aston Villa scout, Mick Brown, who told Football Insider various clubs are watching Eze’s progress closely, and assessing whether he would be able to operate at a higher level.

Brown said: “I’ve heard there are questions about Eze’s consistency. We know what he’s capable of, he’s shown he can be top quality, but he needs to show it every week. I know the top clubs – Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool are all interested in a move and they’re keeping a close eye on him.

“If you can feed him, he’ll thrive. If he’s not getting that at Palace, he’d be getting it at the top clubs. With no disrespect to Palace, the players will be focusing on their own performances without also having to think they need to feed Eze.

“I think the type of team he has to be in is one of those top clubs to help him hit the top level. If you’re a talented player at these types of clubs, they’ll happily feed you the ball, but they also expect you to do the business consistently. That’s what the scouts will be looking for when they’re watching him at Palace.”

Spurs never made the bid

Apparently, Tottenham had a gentleman’s agreement in place with Eze this summer (Football Transfers), but, for reasons unclear, the transfer never came to fruition.

It is said the Lilywhites never actually made the bid to trigger Eze’s £68m release clause this summer (Fabrizio Romano).

Recently, it was suggested Spurs will look to undercut that clause and try to snap up Eze for closer to £50m next summer (Football Insider).

Eze form nothing to worry about

I wouldn’t be concerned about Eze’s current dip in form. When his team aren’t performing, it’s obviously going to be harder for him to do his thing. Palace have lost that spark and momentum they had last season, and while we would expect Eze to lift his side, there’s no doubt that he would be able to perform much better in a stronger, more positive team.
