Tim Sherwood accuses three Spurs players of hiding against Brighton

0 1

Tim Sherwood says three Tottenham players simply did not turn up for the second half against Brighton, questioning why they were not able to get on the ball and release the pressure for their side.

Tottenham’s defensive woes

Spurs had shown a considerable improvement defensively heading into the game at the Amex Stadium, conceding just five goals in their first six Premier League outings.

However, a lot of their good work was undone by a poor 20-minute spell at the start of the second half, with some of the away side’s defending raising some serious question marks.

Sherwood points finger at the attackers

However, Sherwood has now suggested that the problem was that Tottenham’s offensive players failed to stand up and put their mark on the game when their side was coming under siege.

The pundit suggested that he barely saw James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson try much in the second period.

The former Spurs interim head coach told Premier League productions (06/10/24 at 6:35 pm): “It was an incredible turnaround and Tottenham didn’t stand up to it. They didn’t get on the ball. I never saw Maddison in the second half. I never saw Solanke. I never saw Johnson. I never saw them.

“That’s when you need your big players to take control of the game and try to get some passes in. Passes are like medicine when you are up against it, you feel better the more you make.

“But as soon as they score, it’s like dropping the soap in the bath, you know how hard it is to find and it keeps getting away from you. That’s exactly what happened to them in the second half. They just picked them off Brighton, so credit to them.”

Bad performances through the team

Not a single Spurs player can keep their head held high on the back of that second-half display.

The whole Tottenham side lacked any intensity or urgency and appeared completely shell-shocked by the way that the Seagulls came at them in the second half.
