Tottenham Hotspur have been busy securing some of the most highly-rated young talent in Europe over the past year.
Tottenham have a promising talent on their hands
The Tottenham recruitment team have been busy identifying youngsters from across the continent with Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray already having shown promise when given the chance within the Spurs first team this season.
While Spurs fans have been able to cast their eye on Bergvall and Gray at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they have not been able to keep track of Luka Vuskovic in the same manner.
Tottenham signed Vuskovic from Croatian side Hajduk Split in September 2023 on a deal until the summer of 2023.
Given the defender was only 16 at the time of signing, he is not able to move to the North Londoners until he turns 18 in February 2025.
Vuskovic is currently on loan at Belgian side Westerlo along with fellow Spurs midfielder Alfie Devine, and it is fair to say that the teenager has been catching the eye.
Vuskovic has been receiving praise from the Croatian media
Croatian newspaper Večernji List have waxed lyrical about Vuskovic’s promise, describing him as being the kind of player ‘born once in a hundred years’.
They wrote within Sunday’s print edition (6/10/24): ‘He really started the season wonderfully. Not only did he as a 17-year-old become an unquestionable starter in the position of central stopper in a formation with three at the back (started in all games this season), but in ten games in Belgium he has a rather incredible attacking performance of four goals and one assist.
‘He particularly excelled in the last game where his club drew 2:2 with Beerschot, scoring both of his team’s goals as a stopper.
“But the goals weren’t everything, Vušković had an incredible seven shots in that test, seven out of eight in duels won, 100 touches with the ball, two dangers removed, three successful sliding starts with which he saved his team from dangerous opponent counterattacks, and eight out of twelve successful long balls.’
Luka Vuskovic will need time to adapt at Tottenham
It is great to see Vuskovic earning rave reviews during his loan spell in Belgium, however, he will likely need more loan experience within England before he is ready to make the step up to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven forging a formidable partnership at the heart of the Spurs defence, Vuskovic and Alfie Dorrington could very well be the contingency plan should either leave in the next couple of years if Tottenham are unable to satisfy their ambition or desire to win trophies.
