Joe Cole makes Mikey Moore selection claim ahead of Spurs vs Brighton

Joe Cole thinks there might be a surprising name in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven for Tottenham’s clash against Brighton this Sunday.

Spurs are short of options upfront

Both Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are currently out with long-term injuries while Postecoglou has revealed that Heung-min Son does not look likely to be fit for Sunday’s clash (Football.London).

While Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson appear nailed on to start against the Seagulls, the big question now seems to be who will play on the left.

Timo Werner has struggled in front of goal in the last two games, missing several gild-edged chances, and the German now has a youngster breathing down his neck.

Joe Cole backs teenager

Mikey Moore followed up his impressive cameo off the bench against Manchester United with a brilliant 90-minute performance in his full debut against Ferencvaros on Thursday.

On the back of his showing in Turkey, Cole believes that the 17-year-old could keep his place in the starting eleven for Tottenham’s trip to the Amex Stadium.

The former Chelsea man told TNT Sports (via The Daily Mail) about Moore: “He’s different to Son. He’s certainly staked a claim (for a place in the side).

“He’s one where Ange Postecoglou will have looked at in pre-season but every time he plays he picks another box and another box. I think he’s a star and certainly in the frame for the weekend.”

Difficult decision

While Postecoglou is certainly not shy of giving opportunities to young players, he would also want to be careful about managing Moore’s minutes and would not want to throw the youngster to the Wolves.

I suspect he will keep faith with Werner for this Sunday’s clash but one would expect the teenager to come on for the final 15 to 20 minutes of the game.
